In order to contribute to food sovereignty in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Projets school, in partnership with the bilateral chamber of commerce USA-DRC, The Woman and Modern Family, the Congolese Women’s Entrepreneurship Forum and ANAPI, officially launched on Monday, October 21, the project to empower women and girls in home fish production.

This initiative consists of eliminating, on the Congolese market in general and Kinshasa in particular, the presence of horse mackerel fish, otherwise known as mpiodi, which represent a significant portion of food products imported by the Congolese government. According to Pascal Mubiala, agricultural engineer and coordinator of this structure, this initiative will contribute to the socio-economic development of the DRC.
« This commodity, being mostly imported, some chemicals that are administered for its preservation are sources of several carcinogenic diseases, from which the population suffers today, especially young people. This training will make it possible to produce fish in large quantities for the Congolese and to develop our economy, » he declared.

And to add, « it is better to promote what is fresh and produced locally than to favor imports which, beyond harming our economy, harm our health, » he said.
For him, initiation to local production is one of the effective ways to reduce imports in the DRC. He believes that this training of Congolese women and girls in fish farming will resolve the problem of the high price of fresh fish in Kinshasa. « What is rare is expensive, which means that the price of fresh fish in Kinshasa leaves something to be desired. But if production becomes abundant, this food will no longer be a luxury, » he noted.

It is worth noting that registrations for the training continue until next April 2025, by filling out a form available on the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd1SlEH1fNDQrPPqmmkZOz9DbBrE44XQDCridr8Dz4ko7srcA/viewform?usp=pp_url, or by contacting directly +243812895079
